Submission Policy

We seek book-length manuscripts of prose, poetry, & visual arts by trans, non-binary, & Two-Spirit people for publication in monograph & chapbook form. We especially welcome emerging artists & first-time authors.

We do not accept manuscripts by mail. All submissions must use our custom online form & require payment of a non-refundable reading fee (waivers may be requested; email info@endlinepress.com).

As a volunteer-run press, all proceeds go to supporting the artists & making books available to those who need them but are unable to afford them. Each reading fee helps to fund the press’ work & is non-refundable.

How to Pay Reading Fees

We have two tiers of Reading Fees.

Tier 1 --  $5 for submission

Tier 2 --  $50 for submission with custom feedback

After completing your purchase, you will receive a unique, one-time code to submit your manuscript online. Keep this code available because you will need to enter it into the online submission form.

A waiver of $5 for either tier may be requested by emailing the press -- info@endlinepress.com

Submission & Formatting Requirements

Submissions are accepted in PDF format only with a file name of “Surname, First Name(s) - Manuscript Title”. Files may not be larger than 1 GB. Manuscripts should conform to the following constraints:

  • For works of prose, please provide at least 50 but no more than 55 pages.
  • For works of poetry, please provide at least 25 but no more than 30 pages.
  • For visual works, please provide at least 15 but no more than 20 images.
  • For multigenre or multimedia works, please provide at least 15 pages of material but no more than 30 pages and proportion the division of pages to best represent the work as a whole.

In addition to selections of your manuscript & within a single PDF, please provide a brief artist’s statement & a synopsis of the whole project of no more than two single-spaced pages. Please also indicate if yours is a simultaneous submission to another publisher & notify us immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.

End of the Line Press welcomes projects of every genre and aesthetic sensibility with no limits on the artist (aside from the printed page). We hope, in the future, to be able to offer electronic & audiobooks & video arts projects.

At this time, we regret that we are only able to accept submissions in English, but we are very interested in texts which utilize other languages & translingual composition. It is hoped that, in future years, the press will be able to accept submissions in more languages.

We do not accept work which has been previously published elsewhere.

Why do we collect reading fees?

As a registered non-profit, we are required by law to use any & all financial assets solely in the service of our mission, & we are obligated to submit an annual report to Corporations Canada & a tax return to the Canada Revenue Agency for compliance.

This means that most of our budget (90+%) goes toward payments made to the artists, editors, & designers who create each book -- with the only other significant expense being printing & with administrative expenses limited to web services, banking, shipping, & fees for compliance with provincial and federal law.

Submissions are reviewed by members of the Board of Advisors on a completely voluntary basis, & no one on the Board of Advisors may receive financial compensation or benefit from their association & involvement with the press.

For transparency & accountability, we keep an open accounting of our revenue sources & expenses. You can find that information (updated quarterly) here.

We came to the decision to implement reading fees with trepidation & great caution, knowing that our mission is to counter (& not to re-create) barriers to publication. We are confident that, with the exemption outlined above, our reading fees will not impose a barrier to anyone whom we seek to serve, will further allow the press to thrive, & will provide a service to artists.

End of the Line Press licences the right to reproduce the work of authors, editors, & designers, who are the sole copyright holders. Agreements made with authors include remuneration in the form of advances & royalties; editors & designers receive compensation in the form of one-time-only payments.
